Honors Traditions
Signature Events That Shape the JMHC Experience
The Purdue John Martinson Honors College is proud to offer a series of meaningful, recurring events that enrich the honors student journey. These traditions foster connection, reflection, and celebration throughout your time in the JMHC. You can look forward to these events, and many more!
Astronaut Talk
Inspiration from Beyond
Each year, the JMHC welcomes astronauts and space innovators to campus for a public event that celebrates Purdue’s legacy in space exploration. This event brings together Purdue’s Astronaut Scholars, the Leadership for Space Careers program, and JMHC students for an unforgettable evening of discovery and inspiration.
Welcome Home Party
Reconnect and Kick Off the Year
Start the fall semester with energy and excitement at our Welcome Home Party! This event brings us together to reconnect with all things honors.
Ignite: In-Person New Student Orientation
Your Honors Journey Begins Here
Held the Sunday before classes start, the In-Person Ignite orientation is the second half of new student orientation. This in-person event welcomes new students into the JMHC community, introduces key resources, and helps you build connections that will last throughout your time at Purdue.
Get Ahead of Third Year Bootcamp
Plan Ahead. Leap Forward.
Designed for second-year students, this workshop helps you prepare for a successful third year. Connect with campus experts and fellow students to explore topics like professional communication, community engagement, and career planning. It’s your launchpad for your next giant leap.
Learn2Serve
Think Globally. Act Locally.
In partnership with HonorServes, Learn2Serve events explore complex social issues—like hunger, domestic violence, and environmental justice—through multiple lenses. Hear from local organizations, national leaders, and JMHC students conducting related research. These events spark deep conversations and inspire action.
Honors Holiday Party for Good
Celebrate the Season. Give Back.
Take a break before finals with cookies, cocoa, and community. This cozy holiday tradition brings together students, faculty, and staff for a festive celebration that includes a hands-on service project supporting the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter.
Medallion Ceremony
Honoring Your Honors Journey
Held each fall and spring, the Medallion Ceremony celebrates graduating JMHC students with a formal presentation of their Honors Medallion. It’s a meaningful moment to reflect on your achievements and share the occasion with family, faculty, and friends.
Dean’s Events
Conversations That Shape Our Future
Each year, upper-division students are invited to connect with the Dean of the JMHC in small-group settings. These conversations focus on your experiences, future goals, and how the college can best support your growth and success. Expand your network and contribute to the improvement of the JMHC for future students.
