H-Innovate Faculty Fellows

Maryam Al-Othman

Maryam Al-Othman is a Senior Lecturer in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. Her research has been concerned with power and energy systems, transmission line modeling, and teaching and course development. Dr. Al-Othman is a past IMPACT fellow and has been recognized by the College of Engineering for her outstanding course evaluations and dedication to teaching. Dr. Al-Othman is adapting ECE 20001 for H-Innovate.

Samuel Bennett

Samuel Bennett is Assistant Teaching Professor at Purdue University, where he teaches in the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program. Dr. Bennett’s academic interests lie in ancient Greek philosophy, and his primary focus is virtue ethics, its origin story as received through the works of Plato and Aristotle, and its resurgence in contemporary philosophy. He has taught courses on ancient Greek philosophy, ethics, self-discovery, and Jewish Studies. Dr. Bennett is adapting SCLA 10100 for H-Innovate.

Cari Boersma

Cari Boersma is a Lecturer in Purdue’s Brian Lamb School of Communication, College of Liberal Arts, where she has helped thousands of undergraduates develop the communication skills they need to be successful during their college careers and professional lives beyond Purdue. Professor Boersma is adapting COMM 11400 for H-Innovate.

Beatriz Castro Bohorquez

Beatriz Castro Bohorquez is a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, where she teaches Human Anatomy and Physiology. As the team lead of the LearnerX Lab, Dr. Castro partners with undergraduate students to create innovative learning tools that foster engagement and learning. She is an IMPACT fellow and received the IMPACT Festival of Teaching and Learning Recognition from Purdue’s Center for Instructional Excellence. Dr. Castro is the 2024 winner of Purdue’s Class of 1922 Outstanding Innovation in Helping Students Learn Award. She is adapting BIOL 20300 for H-Innovate.

Shawn Farrington

Shawn Farrington is a Senior Lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute at Purdue University. He coordinates the core design thinking course as part of the Freshman Experience, teaches his sections, trains and mentors graduate student instructors and undergraduate TAs, and participates in his research. His own research centers on design thinking, but also encompasses student learning and motivation, Generative AI, and the HyFlex instructional model. He graduated with degrees from Purdue University in Engineering/Technology Teacher education and was a high school engineering and technology teacher in Illinois before returning to Purdue in his current role. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Learning Design and Technology. Professor Farrington is adapting TECH 12000 for H-Innovate.

Dino Franco Felluga

Dino Franco Felluga is Professor of English at Purdue, where he specializes in poetry, critical theory, and film and regularly teaches courses for the John Martinson Honors College. Dr. Felluga is the creator of BRANCH and COVE, digital platforms that encourage active learning and are used by teachers and students at universities around the globe. He has won multiple teaching awards, including the the College of Liberal Arts’ Kenneth T. Kofmehl Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher, and the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. He is a member of the Purdue Teaching Academy. Dr. Felluga is adapting ENGL 28600 for H-Innovate.

Jill Gulker

Jill Gulker is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences with expertise in social psychology, social neuroscience, and workplace diversity. Dr. Gulker’s teaching focuses on topics such as close relationships, implicit biases, decision-making, and the influence of social and cognitive processes on human behavior. Dr. Gulker is working with Erin Sparks Ward to adapt PSY 12000 for H-Innovate.

Jennifer Hall

Jennifer Hall is a Senior Lecturer in the Brian Lamb School of Communication, College of Liberal Arts, where she also serves as Director of COMM 114 and COMM 217. Dr. Hall specializes in health communication and is a past recipient of the Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers, one of Purdue’s top teaching honors. She is a member of Purdue’s Teaching Academy. Dr. Hall is adapting COMM 21700 for H-Innovate.

Linda Haynes

Linda Haynes is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English where she teaches advanced composition and serves as the Associate Director of Composition. Professor Haynes has played a pivotal role in advancing the university’s educational mission by delivering innovative, high-quality writing instruction to thousands of Purdue undergraduates. As teaching mentor for new and experienced graduate students, limited-term lecturers, and visiting clinical instructors, she has shaped the experience of thousands more. In 2024, she was awarded the university’s Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers. Professor Haynes is a member of Purdue’s Teaching Academy. She is adapting ENGL 30400 for H-Innovate.

Cara Putman

Cara Putman serves as the Director of the Brock-Wilson Center for Women in Business and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Law, Communications and Ethics area in the Daniels School of Business. An award-winning member of the faculty, Dr. Putman teaches undergraduate and graduate core courses in business law, employment law, international law, business ethics, and corporate governance. She has been honored with the Krannert Alumni Teaching Excellence Award in Course Delivery, selection as one of Poet & Quant's Top 50 Undergraduate Professors, and membership in Purdue’s Teaching Academy. Professor Putman is adapting MGMT 25400 for H-Innovate.

Troy Seagraves

Troy Seagraves is a visiting instructor in Purdue’s Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program. Specializing in normative ethics, Dr. Seagraves received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Purdue University. He works on topics ranging from philosophy of religion to game-based learning and has presented and published on game-based pedagogy. Dr. Seagraves is adapting SCLA 102 for H-Innovate.

Erin Sparks Ward

Erin Sparks Ward is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, where she enjoys finding methods to improve large lecture and online learning experiences for students. Dr. Ward is the past recipient of the Patsy J. Mellott Teaching Innovation Award and the James C. Naylor Award for Teaching Excellence in Psychology. She is a member of Purdue’s Teaching Academy. Dr. Ward is working with Jill Gulker to adapt PSY 12000 for H-Innovate.
