Community & Global Experiences

workshop and Reading with Melissa Fraterrigo

Wed. Mar. 2, reading at 3pm in STEW 204 and workshop at 4:30pm in STEW 206

Between a collection of stories and a novel exists a hybrid - the novel-in-stories. The stories in this form can stand alone but together create a deeper impact. Bring 1-2 pieces of your writing to this workshop to explore linkages that could start a novel-in-stories. In partnership with the Creative Writing Department.

Leadership Development

Culturally Competent and Creative Placemaking

Tues. Mar. 8 at 5:30pm in the West Lafayette Public Library

Today, communities of all sizes around the US are becoming more diverse and more connected to global marketplaces. The old ways of improving communities -- a small group of people with grand visions making the decisions, attracting a big employer and hoping for a town-wide ripple effect -- just don't work as well as they used to. Learn about two approaches that are designed to work better for today's communities. Cultural competency is a set of skills that help people work better in diverse and dynamic environments. Creative placemaking is a new way of engaging arts and culture to address social issues and enhance economic opportunity.
