Honors Leadership Opportunities

The Honors College is accepting applications for students to become mentors or join our leadership organizations. We are also looking for students to attend a leadership conference, become an exchange student, as well as someone to fill a student position that takes place during STAR. The Honors Leadership Council (HLC), brings together representatives from each college to relay suggestions to Honors College staff. Honors Helping Hands (HHH), is an organization that gives students the opportunity to give back to the community through service projects that enhance Purdue and the greater Lafayette area.

Honors students who are interested in becoming new mentors in Fall 2015 should apply by Friday, February 13th. Previous mentors who wish to return in Fall 2015 need only email Dr. Watkins and state their intentions in order to be considered.

STAR Student assistant positions available

Apply by 5pm, Feb. 20

How has the Honors College enhanced your Purdue education? What advice would you share with incoming first-year students? The Honors College is accepting applications for two STAR (Summer Transition Advising and Registration) student assistants to help with the Honors College advising sessions. Competitive candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities will include public speaking and escorting students to registration labs. Any continuing Honors College student may apply.

You must be available from June 15-July 10, and have a flexible schedule allowing for availability in the late morning as well as early/midafternoon. Pay rate is $8/hr with 12-15 hours per week required. To apply, please email your current resume to Rebecca Krylow, mkrylow@purdue.edu, by February 20th. Review of applications will begin immediately following the February 20 deadline. The request to schedule interviews with finalists will follow shortly thereafter.

The Purdue Honors College is looking for two current or emerging HC student leaders to attend the Lead365, a national collegiate leadership conference. Travel, meal and conference expenses will be covered by the Honors College.

copernican scholar exchange callout

Thursday Feb. 12, 6:30pm in
Duhme Hall Living Room

An exchange program between the Purdue University Honors College and the Honors College at the Università degli Studi di Padova for two “Copernican Scholars” is set for spring 2016. Scholar selections will be made prior to the end of May 2015, and the two students selected will serve as ambassadors for the Italian honors student, who will be studying at Purdue during the fall 2015 semester. The Purdue students will then study at the Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori (the Università’s Honors College) March through June 2016. Classes offered cover all majors, are taught in English, and carry honors credit for ease of transfer back to Purdue. Learn more about this fantastic honors opportunity.

Undergrad Research and Possible Thesis Project Opportunity

Disease Dynamics & Restoration in American Chestnut

Dr. Nate Lichti, a postdoctoral fellow in Forestry and Natural Resources, and his Principle Investigator, Dr. Doug Jacobs are seeking an organized, self-motivated, intellectually curious undergraduate student to conduct independent research on spore dispersal in chestnut blight.

This research experience has the potential to lead to Honors College thesis/scholarly project. Dr. Lichti is willingly to work with an Honors College student who may be interested in pursuing his/her thesis/scholarly project via this project.

Applicants should have completed at least 4 academic semesters by May 26 and should have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The successful candidate will work as a paid technician during the current semester (Spring 2015, average of 5-10 hrs/wk, $10/hr), and will be expected to apply for a Purdue SURF Fellowship to support full time (40 hrs/wk) research during the summer. Interested students should email Dr. Lichti (nlichti@purdue.edu) by February 16.
