What are you working on this summer Marlow?

Marlow Rumreich

"This summer I had the opportunity to study abroad in Australia and New Zealand. I participated in an academic program that focused on energy and sustainability while traveling to different regions of Australia. Many of my lessons took place outside of the classroom. I spoke with Aboriginal tribesmen while camping in the outback, honed my didgeridoo skills, saw whales migrating, learned how to surf, swam with crocodiles, drove the Great Ocean Road, hiked up and down 1000 stairs in the Blue Mountains, watched sparks fly out of 20 homemade capacitors, went paddle boarding with sea turtles, experienced shows at the Sydney Opera house, climbed 750 feet to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and dove 30 feet deep to see the Great Barrier Reef. I ate kangaroo and fed kangaroos. I got to hold a python instead of just programming in Python. In New Zealand, I climbed Mt. Doom and was welcomed by a tribe of Maori people thorough a traditional ceremony. Each day on my summer-long journey was different and exciting, and I loved it. I was able to make friends from all over the U.S. and all over the rest of the world. My favorite lesson of all: even on the opposite side of the planet, you find people who will say Boiler Up!" -Marlow Rumreich
